Writing Techniques
for Primary
There are many mportant elements in writing:
1.The ideas and the details
2.The organization
3.The point of view or voice
4.The use of descriptive, precise words
5.Sentence structure
6.The spelling, grammar, paragraphing, punctuation and capitalization
By second grade these elements have been introduced and practiced.  The writing process is described below.

The Writing Process
1. Prewriting In this step, you think of a topic, brainstorm, and make a list of ideas on your topic.  You ask yourself these questions:  Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How?

Web your topic and add some details.  Or draw a picture of your topic to see it in a new way.
2. Drafting Think about who will be reading your story, and why you are writing it.  Think of a good way to begin.  The introduction should catch your readers' interest.  Write your sentences and add details.

Don't stop until you are finished writing something about each topic and the details.  Get all your ideas on paper.  Don't worry about spelling, or mistakes or handwriting.

Always use scrap paper to begin and always, always skip lines
3. Sharing and RevisingRead your story aloud to someone, or even to yourself? Does it make sense?

Think of ways to make your story even better.

Start with the first sentence and ask yourself : Is it  clear and does it tell what you want?  Is it fun to read with lots of details and describing words?  Does it draw a picture in our mind?  Is it in a good order?  Does it have a good beginning, an exciting middle and a satisfying ending?
4. Editing and SharingUse a red pen and check for capitals and punctuation.  Add words if you need to.

Use a dictionary now and fix words you mis-spelled.

Make sure your paragraphs have one main idea and details to support it.  Share your story again.
